Botanical Name: Rhododendron ‘Aromi Sunstruck’
Plant Type: Deciduous flowering shrub; Aromi azalea hybrid
Size: Approximately 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide at 10 years; size varies with growing conditions and age
Sun Exposure: Partial shade; morning sun with afternoon shade preferred in North Florida
USDA Growing Zones: Commonly listed for Zones 6–9
Flower Color: Lemon yellow with a deeper golden-yellow blotch
Bloom Season: Spring; timing varies with weather and location
Foliage: Green leaves that drop during the dormant season
Soil: Acidic, organically rich, moist, well-drained soil
Water Needs: Water regularly during establishment and during extended dry periods
Landscape Uses: Woodland gardens, mixed borders, garden paths, and spring flowering accents
Native Status: Cultivated hybrid with native Rhododendron austrinum parentage; not a naturally occurring native species
Choose a planting location with protection from intense afternoon sun. Improve sandy soil with organic matter and apply mulch to help retain moisture, keeping mulch away from the base of the shrub. Avoid locations that remain waterlogged.
Sunstruck is deciduous, so seasonal leaf loss is normal. If shaping is needed, prune lightly just after flowering. Late-season pruning can remove buds for the following spring.
